Long-Term Solutions
Starkey researchers know that improving hearing requires deep understanding of how each patient's brain—not just their ears—processes information. This requires focused resources which are not distracted by the day to day demands of running a business. So, we opened the Starkey Hearing Research Center (SHRC) in Berkeley, California in 2004 to focus on long-term hearing research issues as well as product development. Because of the longer term orientation, researchers can investigate techniques and protocols for improving outcomes across the board—from diagnostics to fittings, adjustments and more.
Located two blocks from the University of California Berkeley campus, The SHRC sits near Stanford University, the University of California San Francisco and other major universities. Through interdisciplinary collaboration with our academic colleagues, we've achieved significant breakthroughs in hearing instrument technology. Our own staff includes researchers from a variety of fields including engineering, psychology, audiology, neurophysiology, psychoacoustics and more.
A celebrated researcher in his field, Brent Edwards, Ph.D. serves as Executive Director of the SHRC. Edwards maintains a blog detailing recent developments and trends in the hearing care industry.
